LPA reaction to National Planning Policy Framework consultation announcement

30 Jul 2024

In response to the announcement of a consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework, London Property Alliance Chief Executive Charles Begley said:

“We’ve seen a significant fall in major planning applications over the past decade, during which time the planning system has become increasingly complex and polarised. Making existing buildings fit for the future requires considerable investment, but the debate around the refurbishment of buildings and new development has become almost impossible to navigate due to gaps in existing legislation nationally, and in technical expertise locally. We need a clear framework for decision making so planners and developers alike can make informed judgements, based on facts and standardised metrics, which encourages the investment the country needs.

“We are working closely with the Government and local councils on amendments to the NPPF which we believe will provide much greater clarity and confidence to all parties in order to grow the economy, and help ensure we can deliver the homes and workplaces the country needs.”
