The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has written a letter to Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt in which he urges for the reintroduction of VAT-free shopping for international visitors.
The letter, which has been signed by London Property Alliance Chief Executive, Charles Begley, emphasises the importance of dropping VAT. Arguing that the return of VAT-free shopping would provide a much-needed boost to London’s retail and hospitality sectors at a time they need it most, allowing London to maintain its reputation as a world class destination following the pandemic. Our London Property Alliance Global Cities Survey shows that London risks slipping behind global competitor cities like Paris, which has VAT-Free shopping for vistors.
“London’s success in attracting overseas visitors is vital not just to the capital, but to the whole UK economy. London is the gateway to the rest of the UK”
